A PACKED PANTRY
It's funny how event's, and trials shape us. They, no matter how much we do not want to admit, show forth in the way we do things today. My mom did not have much money while we growing up, she was a single Mom awhile. I remember how she would struggle to get just basic things for my brother and I. I remember disliking very much the clothes that she had for us to wear. I remember how upset she would get when I would say that people would tease me because of them. She was so embarassed to have us get reduced lunches. There was one thing about Mom that I realize now that she worked hard for Bob and I. She loved us, and she was very resourceful.
Over time things got a little better of course. She did get married again, but we never had alot of money. My step-Dad was a carpenter, he was self-employed. ( which means you do not get a check every week for those who cannot understand what I mean) . I watched Mom make meals out of what some would say would be almost nothing. Some of my most fondest memories where Mom and I going on shopping excursions . When Dad would get paid ( which was not often) Mom would write out a shopping list. She knew exactly which store's had the cheepest prices for everything she needed. The trip would take all day, we would load up that big ol station wagon with veggies, day old bread, rice, pasta, etc. Sometimes the trip would take us most the day. We were all so tired by the end of the day. I am not just going down memory lane, I really do have a point here. She never knew when she would have money again, so she made the best of what she had.
I look back now and think of how fortunate we really were. I use her managing, shopping, and being resourceful skills every day, week, and month for helping my husband manage our household. I am so greatful for Mom's wisdom. I do miss her very much.
I can't stress you all enough to try to always have a prudent pantry. A prudent pantry should consist of staples, things that would get you through( making something from nothing) kind of things. Some examples would be flour, dried corn, sweetner, (honey, or sugar) what ever you use, rice, beans, oil, spices, etc. When I do my monthly shopping I always try to include these things in bulk. I limit the things I buy so I can buy good quality organic foods. So sometimes I have to be very creative, but always try to keep it healthy.
Having a prudent pantry is good for many reasons, but most of all it may just save you and your families life some day. You never know in this politically, economically, and sinful unstable world what may occcur. Be ready with your prudent pantry...
